Well, hello there! It’s me, Rizki Silpani, and I’m so happy you’ve picked up my book, Lies About Having His Life Together Gets Invited. You know, sometimes you just have one of those ideas that snags your brain and refuses to let go. For me, this one started with a simple, maybe a little bit absurd, question: what happens when someone who’s absolutely terrible at life pretends to be an expert at it? And not just to one or two people, but to a whole crowd of folks who are genuinely looking for answers?
That’s the kernel from which Leo, our dear protagonist, sprung. I’ve always been fascinated by those individuals who seem to have it all figured out – the perfect careers, the spotless apartments, the confident pronouncements. But then I also noticed, and perhaps you have too, that behind some of those polished exteriors, there can be a whole lot of scrambling. The idea of a person having to maintain such an elaborate charade, and then being thrust into a situation where they have to defend that charade on a public stage, struck me as both hilarious and, dare I say, a little bit poignant.
The purpose of this book, really, is to explore that delicious tension between illusion and reality. It’s about the pressure we sometimes feel to present a perfect version of ourselves to the world, and the unexpected places where we might stumble upon genuine connection and even a bit of truth. I wanted to dive into the comedy of errors that ensues when someone’s carefully constructed facade starts to crumble, but in a way that hopefully leaves you with a smile and maybe even a little bit of encouragement.
